1. La Tomatina Festival(Tomato Battle), Spain

  1. It is one of the messiest food fight around the world. La Tomatina takes place on the last Wednesday of August in Spain every year and starts with a spectacular ritual where hams are hung on a pole.  Always be ready with your arm to throw the tomatoes. A festival where you throw, hit, and drown other people in tomatoes. Trucks containing tomatoes enter the celebratory area with locals starting the process of throwing tomatoes at each other. This festival is combined with massive parades, fireworks and even a glorious Paella cooking contest. This is your chance to experience the best of Spain at one place. It is one of the festivals that offers an unforgettable experience for those who attend and also it brings together people from different cultures and nationalities in a celebration of joy and togetherness.
  2. The tomatoes in La Tomatina include the poor variety which is grown in Extremadura especially for the fight during this festival. These tomatoes are not good for eating and hence the only purpose they serve is to get crushed. The festival attracts tourists from all over the world, contributing to the city’s economy and increasing the region’s popularity.

2. La Batalla del Vino(Haro Wine Festival), Spain

It is one of the unique and ultimate wine battle and street party which is celebrated every year in  Haro,Spain. The  participants douse each other with red wine on a local hillside on the morning of the feast day of Saint Peter (San Pedro), June 29th. It is a ferocious battle above the Spanish vineyards using water guns, hoses, buckets, cups and pretty much anything you can get your hands on that can carry or throw the wine. During the Haro Wine Festival a big stage is set up in the main town square, where a street party takes place. The crowd is almost entirely Spanish and it’s great fun to mix in. 

3.Carnevale Di Ivrea(Battle of Oranges), Italy

It is one of the historical and spectacular carnivals which is celebrated every year in Italy. The tradition of throwing oranges has a symbolic value but also establishes peace after a head to head competition. The people are represented by teams of orange throwers on foot who fight, without any protection, against the tyrant’s soldiers placed on horse-drawn carts wearing protections and masks that recall ancient armour.
